This fabled neighborhood stretches from Central Park to the East River, from the 60s to the mid-90s. Over a century ago, titans like Andrew Carnegie and John Jacob Astor built mansions here, creating magnificent displays of wealth and power. Today the neighborhood supports a much wider range of income levels. Yet it still is known for its high-end mix of shopping, restaurants, the arts, and the good life.
Grand apartments along 5th Avenue enjoy parkside views. Park Avenue, the central boulevard of the area, is a residential oasis. Lexington through First Avenues is the commercial heart of the Upper East Side, and is also home to many modern and pre-war apartment houses that provide bright and spacious living spaces.

- Beyond First Avenue, long, tree-lined blocks blend modern apartment houses with hundred-year-old brownstones such as Gracie Mansion, the mayor's residence.
- Parks
- Central Park, designed by Frederick Olmsted, is the heart of the city, filled with meadows, meandering trails, bike paths, playgrounds and more.
- Carl Schurz Park, a quiet oasis of green, overlooks the East River
- Asphalt Green is a 5 1/2 acre sports complex with gyms, training facilities, playing fields, and Manhattan's only Olympic-size 50 meter pool.
ACCESS
The Lexington Avenue subway provides easy north-south access. Its express line can take you to the southern tip of Manhattan in less than 20 minutes and Grand Central Terminal in just 5. Buses travel all the avenues (Madison Avenue in particular) and cross-town buses will take you to Central Park and beyond. Commuters bound for Wall Street can enjoy dependable ferry service.
